Let’s be fair about this. It is not so much that web design companies suck, but that most web design companies are incapable of giving to us what we really want from them.
As an outsider looking in, you tend to want to believe that any person who builds websites should be able to help us to do anything and everything we want our websites to do.
We let them build our website, now we have no traffic to our website. They suck.
We had them build our website, but no one can find our website in Google. They suck.
We hired them to build our website, but no one is buying what we sell. They suck.
Are you starting to notice a trend here? You would not let your regular doctor do heart surgery would you? But, your doctor went to med school, didn’t he? He knows his way around the human body, right?
Oh, but wait… The heart surgeon is a specialist, right? That is the reason why you would only want a heart surgeon to do your heart surgery?
You wouldn’t necessarily want your heart surgeon to do your next dental extraction either, would you? Different specialties, right? We are getting somewhere now. By the time you have finished reading this article, I want you to understand that most Internet Service providers are specialists:
- Web design companies make websites look pretty.
- Web programmers make websites do stuff, like payment processing, etc.
- Article writers share information in such a way as to capture the readers’ attention and to educate them.
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO) specialists can make subtle changes to your website’s text layout, to improve your rankings in Google and the other search engines.
- PPC management companies help you to maximize your paid advertising to drive more targeted traffic to your website and sales pages.
- Online marketing companies help you position and to get the word out about your company, driving traffic to your website.
The Internet is full of specialists who have the ability to do one thing very well, or a few things very well. There are few companies online, who can do all of the things that you need to have done for your website. When you find a company that is capable of bringing together all of the specialists required to help you to build your business (Like CMDS), you should take notice.
In conclusion, most web design companies do not suck. Most web design companies can make pretty websites. If you’re looking for more than just a website, you should contact a marketing agency.
But so long as we expect more from our web designer than what our web designer can accomplish, then our expectations will remain unmet and we will remain unsatisfied with their performance.
